Boston Pizza

I'm planning on hitting my old college stomping grounds by the end of the summer to catch a Sox game, hook up with some old friends and eat some lobster. And no trip to BeanTown would be complete with out an awesome slice or 5... My hands down choice for the best pie in boston is Regina Pizzeria with Newbury Pizza running a close second.

Regina Pizzeria's opened in the North End in 1926 and it's truly everything a pizza place should be - awesome pies from the brick oven, pitchers of beer, hip, boisterous waitresses, and Sinatra on the jukebox. That’s amore! (Yup, that’s on the jukebox.).

Sadly, Newbury Pizza has closed. I worked at Newbury Pizza and interned at Hill Holliday part time while I was at the Massachusetts College Of Art & Design back in the late 1980's. Newbury's wicked simple and fresh pizza pie was the closest thing to a New York pizza you could find in Boston and working with Lee, Brian and the owner Angelo was really my pleasure and greatly enhanced the short 4+ years I lived there.

Tiny Green Monster

This is wicked cool.

Live scores, batter's count and more with no monthly fees - nice!

My Live Board gives you real time baseball game stats in a 100% solid ash frame complete with Wireless Bluetooth® Technology enabling cycling through the league when your not following your favorite team.

But 200US for a web enabled LED Scoreboard, is a bit pricey considering the same info is available totally por nada online and via my iPhone.

That said, I really dig the retro design and yeah, I'd probably grab one if it came down to the $50 ballpark.

RIP Mr. Butch

Somewhere in my files I've got a business card given to me by Mr. Butch, the self proclaimed Mayor of Kenmore Square in Boston. He's the only homeless person I've ever met that had his own business cards.

‘Mr. Butch,’’ whose name was Harold Madison Jr., died July 11th of injuries from an early morning crash when the motor scooter he was driving hit a pole, friends and family said.

Back in 1989 I'd see Mr. Butch almost every other day on my way to work on Lansdowne Street and I'd get his nod of appreciation whenever I'd give him some change.

Mr. Butch wasn't the kind of homeless person you really felt sorry for. He had this cool, positive aura about him where you never felt threatened or unsafe around him and it was like he actually knew that deep down, he was always going to be ok.

Although yeah, he was a little wacky, kind of like the crazy musician types you meet in used music stores, but he was probably the last bit of any real soul left in Kenmore Square and I'm sad to hear of his passing.

Always quick with a smile, he never bothered you or begged for money. Mr. Butch was simply a cool human being and truly memorable part of my Boston experience.

A bit more here: Mr. Butch.

And thanks to my bud Mr. X, here are a few shots courtesy of Nicole Tammaro of the: Mr. Butch Memorial Service.

Happy Trails Mr. Butch!
