TuboHotel

Dig The TuboHotel.

TuboHotel is located in the Magic Village of Tepoztlan, Morelos about 45 minutes south of Mexico City on the other side of the mountain range. There are also clean and comfortable bathroom houses near by with, as they put it on the site : "skin-scalding hot water, private showers and comodes (that is French for toilet). We suggest you bring a robe, flip-flops, shampoo, soap and your Tubo-Rubber-Ducky."

Man, what an awesome concept for a guest house. as well...

The Modfire

Check out ModFire, a totally modern take on the outdoor fireplace.

Handcrafted out of thick fourteen gauge steel and colorfully coated in hi-temp paint, 48″ tall and 22″ wide, the ModFire would look really sweet in just about any backyard.

Designed and manufactured by hand in the Modfire steel studio in Arizona, they come in a variety of striking colors and several fuel burning options, including wood, propane and natural gas.

Now, if I only had an extra grand lying around I'd grab the red one.

Backyard Prefabs

Photo by Michael Falco for The New York Times
Cheyenne and Greg Morris, (with Jimmy), installed a Kithaus K4 aluminum shed in their Brooklyn backyard.

Three years after renovating their 1903 brownstone in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, Greg and Cheyenne Morris turned their attention to their backyard, which contained an odd assortment of disused items — sinks, toilets, Virgin Mary statuettes, wheels from street vendor carts and a moldering stucco garden shed. They cleaned up the yard, made preparations to demolish the shed and asked an architect to draft plans for a free-standing studio to be used as a bedroom and office.

The plans were drafted, but faced with the prospect of more construction, they chose to buy a Kithaus K4, an 11-by-17-foot prefabricated room designed by Tom Sandonato and Martin Wehmann. It arrived within three weeks of their mailing a deposit check, and took a week to assemble, without the hassle of permit applications or unexpected construction costs.

By late July, it sat handsomely beneath maple and pine trees at the end of the yard, a miniature modern pavilion. They celebrated on the evening of its completion by stepping inside to eat popcorn and watch “Freaks,” the 1930s cult classic.

The Arioso Toro Gazebo

Really digging this smart and functional Outdoor Gazebo, called the Arioso Toro. According to the site, Toro means lantern in Japanese.

The Gazebo is inspired from the Japanese paper lantern to keep you warm inside and bright up your garden.

Totally working for me!

Modular Dwellings

I've been doing a little research for the new studio add on and I really appreciate the modernist approach and clean lines of some of the stuff that's surfacing from the Prefab architectural movement. Check out the latest prefab offerings from Edgar Blazona, a former Pottery Barn designer who offers some pretty sweet backyard structures over at his Modular Dwellings site.

And while we're on the subject of researching cool casa ideas, this is an exceptionally nice resource.
