World Cup Typography

Unity numbers on a Spanish shirt.

I don't know about you but I'm still going through World Cup withdrawl... We really need more more frequent events that enable us to go for a pint or two at 10am.

Unity numbers on Argentinian shirts.
Back to reality - I've finally found some really nice info regarding some of the typograpghy and fonts used on the officila World Cup Uniforms and jerseys. Check out the work of Paul Barnes, designer of the Crepello and Olembe custom typefaces for Puma, and also Yomar Augusto, the creator of Unity, the custom alphabet he designed for Adidas.

Home and away shirts for Ghana.

FIFA Equipment Regulations for numbers.

Congrats again to Spain on their victory over Holland and a big gracias to the smart folks at Font Feed for great info!

Another Day, Another Collection

This is really cool. Since the first week of this new year I've been following San Francisco mixed media artist and illustrator Lisa Congdon's blog A Collection A Day.

The project will span exactly one year, from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010. If you're like me and you can't get enough type and design inspiration, this is a nice little blog to keep the creative juices flowing.

Nice job Lisa, best of luck with the project and thanks for sharing.

Introducing FontStruct

Build, share and download custom fonts using FontStruct's simple editor.

This looks like a pretty fun and interesting tool for anyone that's every thought about diving into the details of creating their own custom font. Oh yeah, did I mention it's free?

I'll let you know as soon as my first FontStruct font is underway!

Check out FontStruct from the smart folks at FontShop.

Que, Wieviel? Nein!

Ah, the power of 9. Did you know that you can create any letter with a 3 x 3 base unit grid?

And now, thanks to the generous folks over at ABC Button: Der Button, you’ll not only be able to see the power of 9 via some buttons in action, but you can also grab the typeface that was influenced by the buttons for absolutely amazing low price: Nada!

These Times They Are A-Changin'

In anticipation of tomorrow's Apple event, The Beat Goes On, here's a little dweebie designer Apple news.

Going sans 3-D and replacing the old school Garamond with the new iPod era and easier-on-the-eyes font Myriad, check out this flickr pool of signs fresh from the Apple campus in Cupertino.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
It's September again

And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' now
What it's name is.
For the video now
Will be even more thin

For the times they are a-changin'.

Big thanks to Bob Dylan for the song and Morgan for the nice shots.

This Day In Type

Here's a cool little collaborative project for all you type freaks out there.

Get your daily typography fix on This Day in Type, a “designer generated” calender where every day is presented with a different typographic twist.

Designers are invited to submit their own creations for a date of their choice.

Since there are often numerous submissions per day, public voting decides which work will become part of the the calendar.

Nice idea, check it out: at This Day In Type.

The above image was created by Horton using the sweet new font Cutiful.

Nice Font: Las Perdidas

Las Perdidas is a super cool new gritty font by Rian Hughes inspired by a stenciled sign on a South American bus.

With seemingly mismatched characters, it rumbles out of the station, fueled by pure urban grit.

A Veer Exclusive: Las Perdidas.
