Doctor Manhattan, The Duke and the Moon

"All we ever see of stars are their old photographs." Doctor Manhattan, WATCHMEN

Wow, I guess there's water on the moon after all - we've been getting lots of rain since this morning's Moon Bombing!

And speaking of our moon...

This is the Duke family. The father, Charles Moss Duke, Jr. born October 3, 1935. The mom, Dorothy Meade Claiborne. The two sons, Charles and Thomas. They are probably in their garden, sitting on a bench. They look so happy.

And they should be, because Charles Moss Duke was the lunar module pilot of Apollo 16 in 1972. He landed with mission commander John W. Young at the Descartes Highlands, which is what makes this photo so special: It's still there, untouched, unperturbed, exactly in the same position as he left it before taking this snapshot with his Hasselblad 70mm film camera.

Read the rest of this great post from the smart folks over at Gizmodo: This Is Not Your Ordinary Family Photo.

When I first saw this shot I immediately thought of Watchmen - how cool is this?

Have a great weekend!

Watchmen Sneak Preview Tonight!

Jackie Earle Haley

Flashback: Vancouver October 2, 2007.

This serendipitously poignant sign just so happens to be outside and 17 floors down in front of Jackie's swanky digs, (The View) in Yaletown, British Columbia.

I shot this one on a cold and drizzly October afternoon after having a nice birthday lunch on one of the nearby islands. My wife and I we're getting rock star treatment hanging out with Jackie and his lovely wife Amelia along with my Boston art school bud Mike (Mr. X) MacKenzie during some down-time off of the set of Watchmen.

Thanks to Jackie and Amelia my wife and I will be attending the sneak preview of Watchmen tonight at the Santikos Palladium here in San Antonio!

So Stoked! Go JEH!

Warning: Watchmen Spoiler!

Sweet - I just found out we've got sneak preview tickets to see Watchmen this Monday, March 2 thanks to Jackie and his lovely wife Amelia!

Watchmen officially hits theatres Friday March 6th!

And yeah, I've totally got Watchmen on the brain because the first thing I thought of when I saw this was Rorschach!

Anyway, this is genius:

Tired of having your food stolen by sticky-fingered coworkers or roommates?

Bullies taking your kid's lunch?

Well, worry no more . . . Anti-Theft Lunch Bags are sandwich bags that have green splotches printed on both sides, making your freshly prepared lunch look spoiled. Don't suffer the injustice of having your sandwich stolen again!

Protect your lunch with Anti-Theft Lunch Bags.

Watchmen Trailer

Sweet! Watchmen is really coming and the trailer is up and live on iTunes Trailers.

Really, really digging the visuals but not totally sure what's up with the music selection for the trailer.

What is up with using the Smashing Pumpkins, a band that formed in 1988, three years after the setting of the novel?

And more specifically the actual song, "The End Is the Beginning Is the End”. WTF? As Rebecca Cullers from Ad Freak reminds us, this song was originally written about Batman for the movie Batman and Robin. Did they think comic-book geeks wouldn’t notice something like that? I understand this first Watchmen trailer is premiering with the opening of "The Black Knight", but the music seems to lump this in with all the other super hero movies and Watchmen is anything but!

Fortunately, they've still got 6 months or so to hopefully get back to the soul of the original book using the more poignant and less forgettable songs of by the likes of Dylan and Elvis Costello...

UPDATE: This is encouraging news from Entertainment Weekly:

"Based on footage Snyder screened for EW, at least, the work seems to have been worth it. Multiple scenes—the Comedian’s murder, Rorschach’s introduction, Dr. Manhat tan’s origin, and a title sequence that flies through the history of Watchmen America, set to Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changin’”—suggest a film that may capture more of Watchmen than anyone thought possible. Sure, there have been changes. But Snyder’s film clearly seeks to emulate the comic. The Gunga Diner, the “Who Watches the Watchmen?” graffiti, the blood-splashed smiley-face button evoking a doomsday clock—it’s all there."

Awesome. And if that's not enough Watchmen news for you, then dig this: Wow!

JEH! JEH! JEH!

"Little Children" Oscar nominee Jackie Earle Haley whipped out his Blackberry and took a shot of Penelope, Ashton and Demi while he walked the runway in a Dolce & Gabbana suit and motorcycle-style boots at the GM Ten Fashion Show.

Then he showed the shot to the driver of the car he was sharing the runway with. The guy can definitely improvise.

I'll have that shot he took posted here very soon...

And I know I'm not the only one that hopes to see more images like this of Sir Jackie at tomorrow nights Academy Awards!

Go Jackie!
