Turntable Christmas Rewind!

I've been a little slammed this December with, you know, life, work and the usual, so this is kind of a lazy post - but a not so lazy post if you're new to Necessito La Music!

Back in 2006 through the entire month of December I posted some of my favorite and obscure Christmas gems.

If you missed it, fear not and behold the beauty and power of the blog!

Here's a day by day posting of last December's goodies all on one page - and like most things that proove worth while, you're usually best off starting at the bottom (of the page!)

Enjoy and Happy Chistmas!

The Watchmen, Weird Shit

Ok, so by now we all know that Jackie Earle Haley has been cast to star as Rorschach in Zack Snyder's big screen version of the epic graphic novel The Watchmen from writer Alan Moore with artist Dave Gibbons.

In regard to how the talented Mr. Haley landed the roll of Walter Kovacs, AKA: Rorschach, a role that, as I understand it, Tom Cruise really wanted... - I think David Thomas puts it best in his overview from his site:

"...Here’s where Zack Snyder maintains and increases his 300 cred. No one would think of Jackie Earle Haley for Rorschach off the top of their heads, but when you hear it, it just clicks somehow. There’s a tortured intensity to Rorschach that Haley can play the shit out of. An unbelievably difficult casting choice, and Snyder nails it."

Exactly.

Especially considering that Jackie's first "comeback" role before his Oscar nomination was playing Sugar Boy, the badass, almost silent bodyguard in Steve Zaillian's All the King's Men.

Throughout the movie, when he's not cleaning his gun or driving like Steve McQueen, Mr. Haley can be seen eating sugarcubes, hence, Sugar Boy.

I'm thinking the Sugar Boy role had more to do with Zack's selection decision than anything else as Jackie was practically the only actor in All The King's Men to not get trashed by the critics.

Or was it something else?

Check this out - I'm almost finished reading Watchmen for the first time (Fantastic by the way...) and I just had to smile at the cool premonition of this panel:

Trippy... just in time for Halloween.

That's Right, weird shit indeed.

Happy 3rd Birthday That's Right + Scrapblog Rules!

Ok, this is probably one of the coolest, most totally Tiki Bongo posts I've shared since I started this blog on my wife's birthday, back in July of 2004, 3 years ago this month. This is post number 657, wow.

That's Right!

Introducing Scrapblog! A perfect name because it simply does what is says and says what it does.

It took me all of just about 20 minutes to set up my first Scrapblog page, a sort of visual link portal.

You simply pick a template or create your own using your pictures, your drawings and your movies to create YOUR own cool online scrap book!

What's really cool is that when you check it out live at HMK Links, not only are the images clickable, taking you to my various other musings online, but it's soooo amazingly user friendly and wicked easy and fun to set up!

Now go set up your own!: Scrapblog!

Have a great week and thanks for reading and commenting!

Happy Birthday Chrissy!

Nice Color Palette Generator

Wow, get a load of this sweet Color Palette Generator!

Below is the color pallette it derived from the image of a proposed version of the "2008 Let's Go Nice!" travel book I'm working on as seen above.

This awesome little generator let's you enter the URL of an image to get a custom color palette that matches the image.

Just be sure to keep the file size of the image you upload under 150kb and you're good to go!

Whether you're a web designer, painter, an interior person or anyone that simply digs color harmony, I think you'll like this.

In the right hands, this is a super nice, smart and powerful little information tool - so why not use it. Although not totally perfect yet, it's a great start.

If this was mine I'd sell it to flickr - a perfect place for a tool like this to live.

That's Right,

Connecting with Connectors

It has become part of our accepted wisdom that six degrees is all that separates us from anyone else in the world. How can that be? Because some of those degrees (people) know many, many more people than the rest of us.

Call them super-connectors. We all know at least one person like this individual, who seems to know everybody and who everybody seems to know. You'll find a disproportionate amount of super-connectors as headhunters, lobbyists, fundraisers, politicians, journalists, and public relations specialists, because such positions require these folks' innate abilities. I am going to argue that such people should be the cornerstones to any flourishing network.

Stay On Top or I Can't Wait!

Check out the Museum Of Modern BETAs.

This a nice little site that gives everyone a hint as to not only what's on the horizon but what's on the minds of those hoping to be the next big thing scooped up by Google.

Updated each Saturday, MoMB lists the 50 most anticipated applications in the webosphere, as measured by the number of bookmarks at del.icio.us for apps which are not publicly released yet.

Though what I really like is the fact that it's also a groovy little source for researching all the amazing new names for future stuff too - a nice, unintended byproduct for research trend junkies like me.

As of today, Scrybe is numero uno, fast forward and check out their demo video: Scrybe.

Have fun! Museum Of Modern BETAs.

Are You Experienced?

Experience is everywhere from cave paintings to broadband websites but what exactly is it?

Read psychologist Tom Guarriello’s primer on defining and designing experience. I know it might sound sort of boring and it's a 3 page article but it really gets great by the end of page one.

If you have anything to do with advertising, design or the web, you'll dig it, I swear.

And as Tom Guarriello put it (as a comment to the original article) "I like the way you describe the designer’s challenge: mix, shake, color, pre-vision, re-vision, en-vision, and let it go. The new emerging from the re-conceptualization of the existing."

Go read: Are You Experienced?
