Greenaid Seed Bombs Rock!

This is absolutely brilliant! Thanks to Daniel Phillip and Kim Karlsrud, founders of The Common Studio, nice job.

Made from a mixture of clay, compost, and seeds, "seedbombs" are becoming an increasingly popular means combating the many forgotten grey spaces we encounter everyday-from sidewalk cracks to vacant lots and parking medians. They can be thrown anonymously into these derelict urban sites to temporarily reclaim and transform them into places worth looking at and caring for.

And speaking of reuse - the Greenaid dispensary simply makes these guerilla gardening efforts more accessible to all by appropriating the existing distribution system of the quarter operated candy machine.

Whether you're a business owner, educator, or just a concerned citizen we'd like to work with you to get Greenaid in your community. You can purchase a machine (or two, or ten...) directly from The Common Studio.

And dig this - they'll even develop a seed mix as well as a strategic neighborhood intervention plan in response to the unique ecologies of your area! All you have to do is simply place the machine at your local bar, business, school, park, or anywhere that you think it can have the most impact and they'll supply you with all the seedbombs you need to support the continued success of the initiative.

Right on!

Schell-Wheeler House by Johnston Architects

Wow. Totally digging this awesome, smart home designed by Johnston Architects PLLC and built by Tall Tree Construction.

Blow-down trees from storms provided the logs that were milled into siding, fascias and trim. A ground source heat pump, supplemented by solar water preheating supplies energy to the house.

Smart Solutions In The Haus!

I'm helping my friends Tish and Bryan with research options for adding a small guest house on their property here in San Antonio. One of everyone's favorites so far is the awesomely smart KitHaus.

Earlier this year, DWR introduced KitHaus, a smart solution that redefines conventional prefab. Designed by Tom Sandonato and Martin Wehmann, Kithaus is an innovative aluminum structure that's assembled onsite using a proprietary clamping system that makes installation quick, economic and practically waste-free.

More Info: KitHaus.

And although their property is near the San Antonio river (you can't have house boats on the water - yet!) we're all digging this little gem:

The Schwimmhaus by German architects Confused-Direction is a green house boat designed to float around or just stay put on the shore. Its modern pre-fab aesthetic sets it aside from most maritime-y houseboats, and a green roof adds freshness and sustainable cred. Still under construction, Schwimmhaus is being built from wood salvaged from an old farm house in addition to other sustainable building materials.
