Happy Easter Y'all!

Well, other than the bunny, above, this post has absolutely nothing to do with Easter. These are just a small sample of some excellent Soviet Era illustration and typography via this nice little stash of vintage Soviet Posters.

Retro TV Via Telstar

I know what you're probably thinking - yeah sure, that's pretty sweet looking, but seriously, who really wants to invest in an old refurb TV with all the incredible new options like HD, LCD, Plasma, etcetera out there?

This is from the Telstar/Predicta FAQ:

Is This Real?

Yes! Color Predicta TV is a reality. Believe it or not, this is the most commonly asked question we receive at Telstar, and we are ecstatic there are so many people out there who want more from their TV than the generic black box offered by other TV manufacturers. The science and romance of the Predicta legend has been resurrected and continued by Telstar.

We realize with the help of software programs such as Photoshop, it is very easy to "fake" a company or product over the Internet. Every unit pictured on our website is a production TV, currently manufactured with new parts. None of the pictures have been doctored in Photoshop or other editing software to create the illusion that we make colors or options that have never been built. As we continue the line of Predicta models, check out our concepts page which has various units in either development stages or concept stages, such as an artist's rendition. These units are appropriately labeled.

So, there you have it. These killer looking TVs are real deal, brand new sets - check 'em out: Color Predicta TV.

Vintage Bicycle Logos

I've been putting some milage on my bike lately, a great way to exercise both body and mind. So, with bikes on the brain I thought I'd share this small gruppo of truly awesome classic type and script-based old bicycle logos, many of which are still in use, courtesy of One+One=Three.

Gotta love those Italians and their attention to detail, simplicity and elegance regarding food, wine and foot ware, but also for the top shelf engineering of their bikes and their brilliant identities as well.

Ok, got some brainstorming to do - time for a quick 45 minute ride!

Meet Otto Watt

Meet Mr. Otto Watt, one of the original radio freaks. The above strip is from way back in September of 1925.

Radio Rules!

Fred Neher was an American comic strip artist and cartoonist. In the early 1920s he assisted Arch Dale on Doo-Dads and he created his own feature Otto Watt.

Neher is best known for 'Life's Like That', a cartoon feature he drew for Bell Syndicate from 1935 to 1941 and from 1945 to 1977. It was published in 500 newspapers at its peak He also created a strip called 'Goofey Movies'.

If you're digging Otto, you'll probably also enjoy The Adventures of Radio Raymond and The Adventures of Radio Ralf as well as mucho mas vintage strips from the cool folks over at: Barnacle Press.

Have a great weekend!

Big Bucks for Vintage Machines

Old tractors like this one are exerting a new kind of pull. As collecting interests a broader, wealthier audience, prices for many models, especially those more than 40 years old, have surged. Some of the oldest tractors -- early 20th-century machines often powered by steam -- can now fetch $100,000 or more, up from about $10,000 a decade ago. Rarer models can sell for much more.

While farmers have dominated the antique-tractor market in the past, they are now bidding against a new, well-heeled breed of collector. The influx mirrors the trend of city slickers buying up farmland for vacation homes in rural parts of the country.

And dig this cool rig! More spaceship than farm equipment, this sweetly restored McCormick-Deering Orchard Tractor has smooth bodywork designed to keep wheels, gears and protruding parts from damaging delicate fruit trees.

Kinda reminds me of my first tractor seen here in this shot from back in 1963.
