Sew Awesome

I am so totally digging the work and skills of sewing artist, textile artist, crafts person, maker or simply artist Jennifer Collier.

Her practice focuses on creating work from paper; by bonding, waxing, trapping and stitching I produce unusual paper ‘fabrics’, which are used to explore the ‘remaking’ of household objects.

The papers she uses are treated as if cloth, with the main technique employed being stitch; a contemporary twist on traditional textiles.

All of her works are unique one-off pieces, available in a varierty of different recycled papers. The best part is that the work can be made to order with your own choice of ephemera! Connect and discuss personal commissions and see more of Jennifer Collier's awesome creations over here: Jennifer Collier.

Hidden Posters of Notting Hill Gate

This is really a cool find! Work at the Notting Hill Gate tube station has recently uncovered these amazing advertising posters in non-public areas dating from 1956 to 1959 when the station's lifts were removed and replaced by escalators. These are in an old lift passageway.

The above shot shows several of the posters - and the original Central London Railway tiled walls from 1900.

Totally digging the bearded character in this Royal Blue coach services poster by Daphne Padden, circa 1959.

Iron & Steel at the Science Museum poster, circa 1959

Thanks to Mikey Yashworth for all sharing these official shots he captured for the London Underground.

The Heritage

Check out The Heritage! A super sexy, multi-format table radio complete with docking for your iPod. Made with aluminium and real walnut veneer, this contemporary reinterpretation of classic European table radio is packed with the latest multi-platform digital radio technology providing coverage of DAB, DAB+, FM and Wi-Fi internet radio – as well as wireless audio streaming from your Mac and, of course, an iPod dock.

The Heritage is the latestproduct I've been drooling over from the fine folks at UK's Revo, an approved Apple ‘Made for iPod’ member.

Very nice!

Close Your Eyes

I was just standing outside in the backyard, drinking a beer and listening to the Specials when I closed my eyes and it felt and looked just like this! The only thing missing is Ringo & Dazy, they have yet to see snow and I can't wait to see how they react to it.

Found this great shot on Jonė Reed's flickr site.

The Greatest Motivational Poster Ever?

"Millions of copies of the "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster were printed on the eve of World War II, but never displayed. Now the message has taken on a new lease of life in our troubled peacetime.

The simple five-word message is the very model of British restraint and stiff upper lip. Keep calm and carry on.

In 1939, with war against Germany looming, the Government designed three posters to steady the public's resolve and maintain morale. These featured the crown of King George VI set against a bold red background, and three distinctive slogans - "Freedom is in Peril", "Your Courage, Your Cheerfulness, Your Resolution Will Bring Us Victory", and "Keep Calm and Carry On".

Two-and-a-half million copies of "Keep Calm" were printed, to be distributed in the event of a national catastrophe, but remained in storage throughout the war.

The message was all but forgotten until 2000, when a copy was discovered in a box of books bought at auction by Stuart Manley, a bookseller from Northumberland."
