Magnet Mobiles

Man, I really want one of these! Check out the latest product from creative collaboration Laikingland, Magnet Mobiles by Ivan Black.

Laikingland, based in both the UK and The Netherlands, design and manufacture beautifully crafted kinetic objects that engage, and evoke a sense of wonder, play and nostalgia.

These awesome magnetic mobiles consist of lightweight rotating forms that spiral around magnet and ball bearing mechanisms. The near frictionless mechanisms allow the Magnet Mobiles to be activated with a simple light blow.

The Young Credenza

I'm really digging the earth tones of the Young Credenza by Kenneth Nilson, a Brooklyn, New York based designer.

The top surface is a sinlge solid slab of seamless walnut, 10 1/2 feet wide by 20 inches deep and 38 inches high and comprised of bronze patinaed steel and walnut.

Ubuntu Restaurant

Not that I'll be heading to Napa any time soon, but I've been following the incredible work of San Francisco architects Michael Baushke and Stuart Hills, founding partners of Apparatus, since 2005 after discovering them via an article in Custom Home magazine.

Their work, inside and out, is absolutely stunning.

Their latest gem is a new restaurant in downtown Napa, occupying a two-story volume in a 19th century stone structure. The space was transformed using sustainable and recycled materials to accentuate the inherent beauty of the existing building. There is no “theme”, only the natural textures and colors of essential materials, the activity of the open kitchen, and of course, wine.

Do yourself a favor and escape for a few moments: Apparatus Architecture.

The awesome photos are by Jen Siska.

700 Palms

Wow. This is really a sweet casa!

The stunning 700 Palms Residence is a prime example of some wicked nice green and site-specific architecture.

Designed by Steven Ehrlich Architects, the striking structure mixes raw industrial materials with a polished modern aesthetic, making it a monument to eponymous SoCal style and a sustainable marvel in its own right. Its breezy construction seamlessly integrates outdoor spaces with a flowing interior floor plan that was carefully considered to address the freedoms and constraints of residential design in Venice, Los Angeles.
