And is it just me, or is Mr. Glaser the original inspiration for Mr. Burns from the Simpsons?

Sweet Dreams

Working on the branding and identity development of the soon to be open Dog & Bee Pub in Beeville the last few months I've had hexagons and honeycombs invading my dreams and seemingly popping up everywhere I look. These are a few of my favorite examples:

Honeycomb window in Registan Square, Samarkand, Uzbekistan, thanks to Apartment Therapy.
The Hive Vase from the folks at West Elm.
The Interior Design of The Disney Store Headquarters by Clive Wilkinson Architects
And finally, these very cool honeycomb shelves from the UK's Unto This Last.
Some Sweet Honey Facts:
1. Honey contains vitamins and antioxidants, but is fat free, cholesterol free and sodium free!
2. One antioxidant called “pinocembrin” is only found in honey.
3. Honey is the only food that includes all the substances necessary to sustain life, including water.
4. Honey has the ability to attract and absorb moisture, which makes it remarkably soothing for minor burns and helps to prevent scarring.
5. Honey speeds the healing of open wounds and also combats infection.
6. As recently as the First World War, honey was being mixed with cod liver oil to dress wounds on the battlefield.
7. Modern science now acknowledges honey as an anti-microbial agent, which means it deters the growth of certain types of bacteria, yeast and molds.
8. Honey and beeswax form the basics of many skin creams, lip-balms, and hand lotions.
9. According to Dr. Paul Gold, a Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia, “people remember things much better after they’ve consumed glucose, a form of sugar found in honey.”
10. Honey is nature’s energy booster! It provides a concentrated energy source that helps prevent fatigue and can boost athletic performance.
11. Recent studies have proven that athletes who took some honey before and after competing recovered more quickly than those who did not.
12. Honey supplies 2 stages of energy. The glucose in honey is absorbed by the body quickly and gives an immediate energy boost. The fructose is absorbed more slowly providing sustained energy.
Gracias to Golden Blossom Honey for the honey facts info.

The flip-side of our first batch of Dog & Bee coasters incorporates a series of honeycombs to play BuzzBee©, a simple little parlor game that's currently in development - stay tuned!
Oh, and one last thing, have you heard about the Magic Hexagon? Pretty sweet stuff!

The Modfire

Check out ModFire, a totally modern take on the outdoor fireplace.
Handcrafted out of thick fourteen gauge steel and colorfully coated in hi-temp paint, 48″ tall and 22″ wide, the ModFire would look really sweet in just about any backyard.
Designed and manufactured by hand in the Modfire steel studio in Arizona, they come in a variety of striking colors and several fuel burning options, including wood, propane and natural gas.

Now, if I only had an extra grand lying around I'd grab the red one.

KSYM Pledge Drive 2011 - It's On!

It's Pledge Drive 2011 at KSYM! The above are this years t-shirt designs I did as premium offerings for a pledge of $25 or more to the mighty KSYM, 90.1 FM here in San Antonio.
The top shirt is for my Beatle loving freak and friend Richard Turner. Richard is celebrating the 25h Anniversary of his awesome Best Of The Beatles Show that's been on the air every Sunday morning from 9-12 since 1986! Congratulations Richard!

And as if his on air tribute to the Fab Four isn't enough - check out Richard's guitar store in Olmos Park, Redbone Guitar Boutique! He's created a replica of the Cavern Club within the store complete with tons of authentic Beatles memorabilia, swag and of course there are some wicked nice guitars, amps and other gear for sale, including both right and left-handed guitars like Hofner, Vox, Eastman, Duesenberg, Collings, and Gretsch, just to name a few! Do your self a favor and check it out!
The second shirt is for one of my beer drinking, music loving buds, Sir Bobby J and his Mainstream 120 Show. It's San Antonio's only all vinyl Jazz Show and you can check it out every Saturday Morning from 9-11.
Now, if only the folks that maintain the KSYM website were as dedicated, creative and imaginative as the DJ's.... Oh well, good thing it's all about the music! VIVA KSYM!

Felt Macbook Air Sleeves

Although there is currently a short waiting list at Angie Davis' Byrd & Belle Studios, your order will be ready to ship within two weeks of your completed purchase.
I can't wait for mine to get here!
The above 13" MacBook Air case and more are available in any combination of the felt and leather colors they have available in their shop. Considering the fact that these are entirely hand crafted, they're well worth the wait!

The creator of these awesome pieces is Angie Davis. She lives on an island in the Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis. Her live/work studio is a 1950’s building that was originally a school bus depot. The loft used to be the service bay and is surrounded by remnants of mechanical lifts, floor drains and antique power washers. She share's her space with her betrothed, a few listless felines and a 90-pound mutt named Gertrude.
Check out the full shop over at Esty: Byrd & Belle Studios and read more about Angie here: Interview.

While I'm no wizard in the kitchen, I'm really digging Witches' Kitchen, a 15-piece handcrafted kitchenware collection from Studio Tord Boontje.

As part of the Artecnica Design With Conscience project, the collection is a collaborative effort in sustainable design commissioned by Artecnica, designed by Studio Tord Boontje, and made by artisan communities in Brazil, Colombia, and Guatemala.
