Sew Awesome

I am so totally digging the work and skills of sewing artist, textile artist, crafts person, maker or simply artist Jennifer Collier.

Her practice focuses on creating work from paper; by bonding, waxing, trapping and stitching I produce unusual paper ‘fabrics’, which are used to explore the ‘remaking’ of household objects.

The papers she uses are treated as if cloth, with the main technique employed being stitch; a contemporary twist on traditional textiles.

All of her works are unique one-off pieces, available in a varierty of different recycled papers. The best part is that the work can be made to order with your own choice of ephemera! Connect and discuss personal commissions and see more of Jennifer Collier's awesome creations over here: Jennifer Collier.

Megaphone

Wow. Super bad ass. Wicked pricy...

From the site:
Passive Amplifier for iphone made of ceramic. the form is designed to amplify and optimize the best sound output. the amplifier is based on a thin wooden frame that allows the object to float off the table. this in order to increase the vibration of the object and to optimize the emission of sound. designed for the iPhone is perfect for listening music without headphones, for audio conference to hear the person on the phone as live voice.

Firing 720°C process assures a perfect glazing cohesion, authenticity of material and its long-life.

I've officilly added this to my Drool Collection ...

Dig: Megaphone.

100-year-old Barnwood Backyard Retreat

When sustainable building advisor Megan Lea set out to build a backyard retreat, she knew that reclaimed materials would figure prominently into the design. What resulted is a polychrome of salvaged 100-year-old barnwood by West Salem-based Barnwood Naturals that makes the facade of this Bernard Maybeck-inspired design as unique as it is enviornmentally friendly.

The plan features a loft, home office, kitchen, bathroom, living room, and deck. The Tumbleweed Tiny House Company sells this plan for $695 and estimates material costs at about $33,000.

QuaDror

QuaDror from Dror on Vimeo.

In 2006, while experimenting in the workshop, Dror discovered a serendipitous geometry. Initially inspired by the aesthetic and flexibility of this versatile form, he soon realized the structural integrity of the interlocking members. The unique space truss geometry - now named QuaDror - is made from the assembly of four identical L-shaped pieces, either thin resulting in a trestle structure, or thick resulting in a solid panel. The collapsible system allows for rapid assembly and a transition from closed and flat to open and self-standing.

Boosted by a team of experts, the studio conducted inter-disciplinary research and rigorous analysis, to soon discover the overwhelming strength of the geometry coming from the most simplistic physical force. The geometry revealed five development direction for applications with endless possibilities; dividing, dwelling, trestle, fenestration and artistic installation. These enabled designs reflect an ever-changing world where contextual factors and technological resources are shifting definitions of architecture, design, and the traditional boundaries between disciplines.

Crazy cool! See more from: Studio Dror

The Secret Passageway Switch

Dig the The Secret Passageway Switch from designer Ben Light .

Use the switch to activate a secret passageway (or turn on a lamp). When placed in a bookshelf, this electrical switch uses your favorite hard-bound book, without damaging it, to conceal its true function.

Nice.

This Chair Rocks!

Now this a hybrid!

Designed by Paul Kweton of Houston for Barkitecture, the "merge" & "morph" manipulation of the old school rocking chair and doghouse generates a hybrid "furniture" that combines the idea of shelter and body relaxation and pushes its functionality to a different, more personal level.

Yeah, this is on my official wish list.
